Description

This is an exhibition catalog (Florence, Salvatore Ferragamo Museum, Marino Marini Museum, Palazzo Pitti Costume Gallery, National Central Library of Florence; Prato, Museum of Fabric)from May 12, 2016 to April 7, 2017.
The catalog illustrates the exhibition located in multiple places, featuring many prestigious loans from public and private museum collections and contemporary artworks. The Salvatore Ferragamo Museum's new production examines the complex relationship between the worlds of art and fashion, taking its cue from the story of Salvatore Ferragamo, who was fascinated by the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century, and was inspired by the world of art. He collaborated with artists contemporary to him, inaugurated a practice that the Ferragamo brand has continued to today.
The project will analyze through historical cases the forms of dialogue, contamination and collaboration between the two worlds, from the experiences of the Pre-Raphaelites, Futurism, and Surrealism, paying attention to some ateliers of the 1950s and 1960s, a place of studies, encounters, and the birth of celebrity culture that continued to the experiments of the 1990s. In the end, it gets to the question of whether we can still speak of distinct worlds or a fluid play of roles in the contemporary culture industry.
