Lin Wenyi
Born in Taipei City in 1953. When he was young, he followed Mr. Li Fei-meng (Niu), a famous novelist and cartoonist, to practice drawing. In the 1980s, his prose and cartoons were listed in the same newspapers and magazines, and he served in the media all his life, and he loves editing work.

Literary works: 60 books, including “Eight Posts of the Legacy”, “The Night Life of a Revolutionary”, and “Thirty Years and a Half Centaur”. Comic works: 8 books, including Comics of “Ah Q”, “The Island of the Wind--A Brief History of Taiwan in Comics”.

Awards: 1979 Times Literary Award, 2012 Taiwan Literature Golden Award, 2014 Wu Sanlian Literary Award.

Fantasy literature weakens the limitations of thinking, jumps out of the framework of ideas, turns ordinary drops in real life into extraordinary things, enjoys the superpowers which are brought to us by imagination, and takes all the irrationality for granted. "Journey to the West" is the classic masterpiece of fantasy literature, and the reason why the classic has become a classic is precisely because it brings us a strange world that subverts our imagination, but everything makes sense.

"Journey to the West" is also a good reading book with no age limit, which can be read at different stages of life to experience different fun and wisdom. When I read it as a child, I envied the Monkey King for his great powers; when I read it as I grew older, I empathized with the Monkey King's loneliness. The fact that it can give readers such different and strange feelings proves once again that it is a classic, a classic that makes people never let go of the book.

In addition, from different perspectives to look at the characters in the book, its unique and distinctive characteristics of the different interesting, which is precisely the value and joy of reading to bring us. Reading empathy comes from connecting with each person you meet on your life's journey, because of each unique you, you make the journey meaningful.

When I read the book, I saw the four masters and disciples walking on the way to fetch the scriptures, and I saw a sense of life, the Monkey King and his group's journey to fetch the scriptures, and I saw life issues that I could discuss with my children:

First, everyone has some merits that we lack, so we should always be humble to learn from others: every student in the class has something to learn. The Tang Monk teaches us to be kind to others and keep a forgiving heart; the Monkey King teaches us to be resourceful and do things bravely and decisively; Sha Wujing teaches us to be down-to-earth and hard-working; Pigsy teaches us to be happy and bring laughter to people. Everyone in the classroom has different strengths and we can learn from them by looking at people in a 'positive' light.

Second, cooperation to meet success: the four of them are not perfect, people would not have been perfect, but this one by one imperfections will be an invincible team. They use their own strengths to help each other, and steadily achieve victory. This fantastic journey to get the scriptures which can’t be done without anyone of them, because, they are each other indispensable puzzle. As in the class, each person is a real presence, when the class can be more united, there is the power of upward. In today's era of fewer children, children really need to have the ability to work with others!

Third, to build immunity against setbacks: What is life without frustration? The journey of life is just like the process of fetching scriptures, every time will encounter different difficulties, even if those demons and monsters are in our hearts, only if we have the frustration tolerance to fall down and stand up again, the outline of the road of life in front of us can still be clear, and the fragrance of the flowers of life in the distance will still be rich.
This book is presented in the form of "comics", which is quite suitable for children at the elementary school level to read, inserting the wings of imagination for children and overlooking the major issues of life.
