Review

Artist Xiong Liang's works are a blend of tradition and modernity, reflecting the strong characteristics of Chinese culture. At the same time, he uses art as a narrative medium, which is in common with other artists. Through an illustration, he tells stories and conveys emotions, and his art style is abstract and infectious.
--The Hans Christian Andersen Award Committee

Xiong Liang’s picture books intend to explore the world. The way for children to connect with the world is not to be directly informed by experience, but to slowly feel their way to understand the world.
--New Beijing News

Xiong Liang is a humble person who considers the feelings of others at all times. However, he is a maverick when it comes to the creation of picture books. In the domestic picture book industry, he is a rare master, and an experienced picture book writer, who has won various painting awards at home and abroad.
--Beijing Daily

I found that Xiong Liang is special. His love of nature, traditional art, and life, his childlike heart, his unparalleled simplicity and honesty towards people, his Wing Chun, his paints, his brushes, his thick beard, his strange hats ...... make up a "Xiong Liang".
--San Chuan Ling (Children's Book Author)

Feature

★It is the work of Xiong Liang, the illustrator who has been shortlisted for the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, and the winner of Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award!
★Every picture book of the author is a professional work with story and picture blended into one, and his picture books have won many awards such as "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award", "Golden Monkey Award" of China International Animation Festival, "Golden Bull Cup" Silver Award for Art Books, and so on!
★It presents traditional culture in the form of lively comedy! The story is inspired by the Chinese folklore "The Chinese Ghostbuster", and the art modeling comes from Gong Kai's "Zhongshan Outing" in the Yuan Dynasty, which not only retains the traditional Chinese cultural core, but also gives the modern vivid art modeling. There is also a plot that makes people laugh.
★Warm and upward story kernel: the author has given each character a different personality, the clever and resourceful little kid, the caring Zhong Kui, the strong but timid big demons, and the courageous kids...No matter which character, you can feel the power of positive warmth.
★ Unique picture style: the picture is created in a way that combines hand-drawing, paper-cutting and splicing, computerized drawing and other complex creative techniques, making the picture richly layered and suitable for repeated reading.
★This is an adventure about love, courage and overcoming fear. Two cowards overcame their fears in their own way, and at the same tiem they also gained love and courage. The fantasized fears are not scary!

Description

It is adapted from a northern nursery rhyme. Green vegetables, radishes, bean sprouts, cabbages, scallions, all the usual fresh and crisp vegetables came to life one by one and started a big battle with the king of lotus root. The scene is lively, both camps are evenly matched, until the ox-legged gourd fired the cannon, the green bean curd lit the fire rope, the eggplant, cucumber, garlic, chili peppers beat the hell out of them, and the king of the lotus root fled into the mud pond in a losing battle.
