Description
Sherlock Holmes said, "I am a brain, and all other parts of me are but appendages of the brain".
From ancient times, when the brain was not valued, to the fact that the brain actually defines mankind; detailing the serendipitous discovery of the brain's specific mechanism of functioning, and extending it to the abstract principles of memory and emotion.
- The “Unbelievable Brain” allows you to really know yourself!
By stimulating parts of the brain, it is possible to influence the mind, change personality, revive aphasia, suppress addictions, seek creativity, and even reshape the brain, unlocking opportunities for salvation from many of the diseases of old age.
- The “Unbelievable Brain” takes you on a journey into the future of medicine!
What you see with your own eyes and hear with your own ears is as if you hadn't seen it, as if you hadn't heard it; your own hand may not be your own hand, and your sawed-off leg still feels like it's there. Why does the brain deceive itself so completely?
- The “Unbelievable Brain” takes you into the halls of neuroscience!
The “Unbelievable Brain” is a concise textbook of brain science, a record of the most important discoveries in brain science over the centuries, and a record of the major advances in the history of brain science.
Unanimous praise
“The sixteen chapters of this book, with their quotations from the classics and lively illustrations, have taken more effort than a doctoral thesis. I sincerely recommend all readers who are interested in neuroscience to read this book, which combines humanities, history, and the evolution of neuroscience.”

Author
He is a neurologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at National Taiwan University. Graduated from the Department of Medicine, National Taiwan University, he was the Chief of Neurology at Shin Kong Wu Huoshi Memorial Hospital, and is now an attending physician in the Department of Neurology at Shin Kong Hospital, and also an attending physician in the Department of Neurology at National Taiwan University Hospital; he is also a founding board member of the Taiwan Movement Disorder Society, and has served as President of the Society.
He enjoys playing the classical and flamenco guitar, believes that the truth of nature is already mysterious and fascinating and that any pretence is ridiculous and superfluous, and is good at explaining seemingly difficult truths in simple language. His philosophy of writing is that reading is like making friends, which takes time and emotional investment, so it must be worth it. Like friends, books are worthwhile if they are either 'useful' or 'interesting', but not if they are both. I hope that every book and article I write is worthwhile.
He has a column in the United Daily News entitled "Mr Brain Talks about the Past and Present", and his book "The Unbelievable Medical Treatment" was selected as one of the 2021 Openbook Good Book Awards, and the 44th Selection of Primary and Secondary School Students' Reading Materials by the Ministry of Culture.
Ming-hsien Song (Illustrator)
He is a neurologist. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Sun Yat-Sen Medical University, trained in the Department of Neurology of Shin Kong Wu Huoshi Memorial Hospital, and is now serving in the Department of Neurology of Sunbeam Hospital.
Since he was a student, he has been interested in drawing, especially in sketching with pure black and white colors, as well as cartoon illustrations with an absurd sense of fun. During his university years, he explored various other interests, including tennis, sign language, jazz drumming, weight training, etc., but most of them were not as successful as he would have liked, but he was fortunate to have painting as a companion. With Dr Han-ch’eng Wang's appreciation and support, he is delighted to be able to interweave witty hand-drawn illustrations with the cleverly written text, helping readers to see the beauty of neuroscience.
