Description

Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, also known as the "Electrice Palatina," was the last representative of the Medici dynasty, the only daughter of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III and Princess Marguerite Louise d'Orléans, who was related to the Sun King. In 1737 she had drawn up the so-called "Convention," more famous as the "Family Pact," a contract that sanctioned the transfer of the vast artistic collection that had belonged to the Medici for centuries to the Tuscan state. Thanks to her we are able to admire the many art treasures collected for centuries by the Medici dynasty, and thanks to her the city of Florence was freed from the despoliation of masterpieces that affected so many other cultural centers of the Italian Renaissance. After the death of her husband Giovanni Guglielmo, Elector of the Palatinate, Anna Maria Luisa returned to Florence, where she lived until the end of her life.
