Review

“Historians and literary scholars have failed to transform the difficult ancient history books into modern languages, and the stereotyped narratives of the so-called academics into interesting popular speech. Now, Mr. Chen Sun-Shen, a giant hand in the cultural world, has taken up this important task, and his series of historical stories have made the spots of history come alive!”
——Bo Yang, renowned historian and social critic

Chen Shunchen's existence is a miracle
--Ryotaro Sima, famous Japanese historical novelist and author of “Miyamoto Musashi”

“There is probably no writer as accomplished as Chen Sun-Shin now, and there will never be another one in the future. 'There has been no one before, and there will be no one after,' and this is the reason why Chen Sun-Shin is Chen Sun-Shin.”
——Koichiro Inabata, Professor Emeritus, Waseda University, Japan; Visiting Researcher, Center for the Study of Ancient Chinese Documents, Peking University

Consciously combining historical themes with detective techniques, it is both a historical novel and a detective novel, with two types of readability. I'm afraid there is no one in the Japanese novel industry who can surpass it. "- Li Changsheng, a Japanese writer and expert in the study of Japanese publishing cultural history

Foreword

Qin Shi Huang was a person with a high nose bridge, slender eyes, a chest like a bird, and a voice like a jackal or wolf. He was mean and ungrateful, with a heart like a tiger or wolf. When he was in poverty and hardship, he was willing to be a human, but when he achieved success, he was also prone to bite you in return
Some people say that Yu Liao's surname is Wei Liao, while others say that Yu Liao is an official title name. It is still unknown whether this character truly exists, but "Records of the Grand Historian" states that Emperor Qin Shi Huang was very fond of Yu Liao and often allowed him to accompany him. He allowed Yu Liao to eat, dress, and use the same things as himself, and was very humble towards him. Qin Shi Huang achieved such a great feat for a foreign minister, but Yu Liao was very grateful for Qin Shi Huang's kindness towards him. At the same time, he still felt that Qin Shi Huang was a person who would do anything to achieve his goals. When it was really necessary, he might even bow down to you.
Kneeling down does not mean that the person is honest. On the contrary, if he gains power, he will 'cannibalize' others. He can kneel before you or cruelly kill you. He can be humble to the dust, or he can stomp on you fiercely. Thinking of this, Wei Liao dropped the phrase "Do not travel with me for a long time" and wanted to escape quickly, but Qin Shi Huang stopped him and didn't let him leave.
Yu Liao wanted to escape, definitely because he discovered that Qin Shihuang was being polite to him now, and there was a possibility that he might turn against him in the future. He may have had a premonition that Qin Shihuang would become the ruler of the entire world due to this trait.
