Description

An elementary exposure, albeit as rigorous as possible, of the fundamental concepts of combinatorial calculus and of some typical resolutive schemes, introduces a significant number of exercises of different difficulty (some immediate, others far from trivial). Of all the proposed problems is then given a more or less detailed resolution, reporting, in many cases, the typical errors. This provides the student with a useful opportunity to prepare for a type of reasoning that cannot easily be confined to standard and routine schemes. This training is not for itself, but it is in sight of successive applications to other chapters of mathematics, such as the Calculus of probabilities and the Mathematics of the finite. In this second edition, the narrative buildup has been improved, adding those observations and results the lack of which the teaching experience has pointed out. The number of proposed exercises was also significantly increased.

Author

Maurizio Trombetta (1946), has taught Mathematical Analysis at the Universities of Trieste and Udine. For many years he led the Research Unit in Mathematics Education at the University of Udine and was president of the Mathesis section of Udine, actively contributing to the organization of the association's many activities and taking care of refresher courses for teachers.
